The Glens Falls Inn open.
This is a Nostalgic Trip back to its 2009 site.

NOTE: The Glens Falls Inn is still open. If you have inadvertantly ended up here while searching for the Inn, call 518-743-9365 for information or to make reservations.

For a number of years this was the official website for the Glens Falls Inn, a stately 1880 Queen Anne Victorian . Once the home to presidents and vice presidents of International Paper, this lovely Victorian was opened to the public as a bed & breakfast in 1999 when the inn's owners and hosts were Eric & Denise Olson.

In 2003 Rosemary & Christopher Castelli became the keepers of the Inn. Eventually Rosemary Castelli became the Owner & Innkeeper while Chris & Gina Castelli were Assistant Innkeepers. By 2005 Armanda Squadrilli became the Innkeeper with Titan & Argos, Assistant Innkeepers. The site saw a number of redesigns over the years. At the beginning of 2012 the site received another new update in its design along with new hosts, Ken and Mark.

Sometime around 2017 the site's domain registration expired and the site disappeared from the web. The new owners of the site's domain have chosen to create a historical look back to the Glens Falls Inn as it was in 2009.
Enjoy the nostalgic trip.

Blast From The Past: My family stayed here many times and love the place. Have many great stories from these stays. Met some very nice people, fellow visitors. One stay just before Christmas we met a young pregnant mother and her husband from NYC and we got to talking about our pets. Noob, our old mutt was having problems sleeping through the night. When they heard this, they took us up to their room where there was a huge present wrapped with a large red bow. It was a gift for a family member who was a dog owner. They were excited and eager to show us this gift and carefully unwrapped what turned out to be a round pillow, designer dog bed with a GoodNightDog.com label. When we told them about Noob's sleeping issues, they had experienced very similar problem with their pooch and this dog bed solved the problem. Long story short, we bought one on that recommendation. Noob immediately took to the bed and has been making progress ever since we introduced it - it's quite amazing. Every dog would benefit with one of these beds. How a trip to the Inn helped our Noob. Sweeter and quieter than Saratoga

Listen, if you want a big flat-screen TV stay in New York. This little-city upstate retreat has everything you need to have a nice vacation off the beaten path.
Glens Falls has a lot of new buzz and amenities. Restaurants, proximity to Lake George and the racetrack are just two. I loved this place and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Glens Falls Inn Undergoes Changes

Dec 14, 2011
BLAKE JONES -- poststar.com

GLENS FALLS -- A local real estate agent and two others have taken over day-to-day operation of the Glens Falls Inn with plans to purchase the property.

Mark Petrie, Ken Tubbs and Dorothy Petrie are running the inn, which previously did not have a full-time innkeeper.

Petrie said the owner, Armanda Squadrilli, is based downstate and has not been able to run it at capacity.

"We have joined forces with the current owner to make the inn profitable again," Petrie said, adding there are plans to purchase the property after nine months.

Petrie, his retired mother and Tubbs are working to improve the website, glensfallsinn.com, and allow for online reservations. They're also working to draw visitors to local cultural events and to make cosmetic changes to the rooms.

Looking forward, they plan to also start a nonprofit program that provides free weekend stays to children who have lost a parent. Petrie said his children lost their mother, and Tubbs lost his father.

"It's the second mission to the inn," Petrie said.

More Background On GlensFallsInn.com

GlensFallsInn.com occupies a distinctive place in the ecosystem of heritage hospitality websites. Rather than functioning solely as a modern booking platform, the site operates as a digital time capsule, preserving the look, feel, and informational depth of the Glens Falls Inn as it existed during its most celebrated period in the late 2000s. For travelers, historians, preservationists, and long-time guests, the site serves as both a practical reference point and a nostalgic record of a beloved Victorian bed-and-breakfast in upstate New York.

Unlike many archived hospitality websites that vanish when ownership changes or domains expire, GlensFallsInn.com has been intentionally curated to retain historical continuity. Its stated purpose is not to replace the Inn’s current operational channels, but to document the Inn’s legacy, atmosphere, and role within the cultural and tourism life of Glens Falls and the greater Adirondack region.

This dual identity—part historical archive, part informational guide—makes GlensFallsInn.com unusual among hospitality domains and worthy of deeper examination.

Ownership, Stewardship, and Domain History

Early Inn Ownership and Transition to Public Hospitality

The Glens Falls Inn itself predates its website by more than a century. Built in the 1880s as a Queen Anne–style Victorian residence, the building originally served as a private home for executives associated with International Paper, one of the region’s most influential industrial employers. This association placed the house within a broader narrative of Glens Falls’ economic and civic history, when the city functioned as a manufacturing and managerial hub for northern New York.

In 1999, the property transitioned from private residence to public accommodation when it was restored and opened as a bed and breakfast. This restoration marked the beginning of the Inn’s modern hospitality era and laid the groundwork for its digital presence.

Website Stewardship and Evolution

GlensFallsInn.com initially functioned as the Inn’s official website, evolving through multiple redesigns as ownership and management changed. Over time, stewardship of the Inn passed through several innkeepers and operators, each bringing distinct priorities and branding sensibilities. The site reflected these changes, gradually expanding from a simple informational page into a richly detailed hospitality portal featuring room descriptions, regional guides, event listings, and policies.

Around 2017, the domain registration lapsed, causing the original site to disappear from active circulation. Rather than being repurposed for unrelated commercial use—a common fate for legacy hospitality domains—the domain was later revived as a historical retrospective, reconstructing the Inn’s 2009 website using archived materials and external documentation.

This decision transformed GlensFallsInn.com from a transactional site into a heritage preservation project, ensuring continuity for former guests and researchers alike.

Location and Geographic Significance

Setting Within Glens Falls, New York

The Inn is located on Sherman Avenue in Glens Falls, a small but culturally active city positioned at the southern gateway to the Adirondack Mountains. Glens Falls has long marketed itself as a “typical hometown” of America, blending small-city accessibility with proximity to major recreational and cultural destinations.

GlensFallsInn.com emphasizes this positioning by framing the Inn as both in-town and regionally connected, appealing to guests who want walkable urban amenities without sacrificing access to wilderness, lakes, and historic sites.

Proximity to Key Destinations

The site provides detailed proximity information that situates the Inn within a dense network of attractions:

  • Lake George (approximately 15 minutes), widely known as the “Queen of American Lakes”

  • Saratoga Springs (about 20 minutes), with its performing arts center, horse racing, and spas

  • Crandall Park and West Mountain, offering year-round recreation

  • Adirondack High Peaks, accessible for longer day trips

  • Cross-border access to Vermont and Quebec, reinforcing the Inn’s appeal to international travelers

This geographic framing reinforces the Inn’s identity as a strategic base rather than a single-destination stay.

Architectural Character and Preservation Recognition

Queen Anne Victorian Design

GlensFallsInn.com devotes significant attention to architectural detail, underscoring the building’s Queen Anne Victorian design. Features such as asymmetrical massing, decorative woodwork, period fireplaces, and a historic carriage house are highlighted not merely as amenities but as elements of cultural heritage.

The site’s language consistently ties architectural preservation to guest experience, presenting authenticity as a core value rather than a marketing flourish.

Preservation Awards and Recognition

The Inn received formal recognition for its restoration, including a Historic Preservation Award from the Chapman Historical Museum. GlensFallsInn.com references this accolade to position the Inn within broader preservation efforts in the region, lending credibility to its claims of historical integrity.

Additionally, the Inn earned national hospitality recognition in Arrington’s Inn Traveler publications, including a “Best In-Room Amenities” distinction. These awards contribute to the site’s portrayal of the Inn as both historically significant and competitively excellent.

Hospitality Philosophy and Guest Experience

European-Inspired Intimacy

One of the defining themes throughout GlensFallsInn.com is its emphasis on European hospitality traditions. This philosophy manifests in multiple ways:

  • Continental breakfast service rather than buffet-style dining

  • Intimate common spaces designed for conversation and reflection

  • Limited number of guest rooms to maintain quiet and privacy

The site positions this approach as an alternative to standardized hotel experiences, appealing to travelers seeking personalization and calm.

Innkeepers as Hosts, Not Operators

Profiles of innkeepers and assistant innkeepers play a central role in the site’s narrative. Rather than presenting management as anonymous staff, GlensFallsInn.com emphasizes personal backgrounds, languages spoken, artistic interests, and community involvement.

This framing reinforces the idea that staying at the Inn is a social experience, shaped as much by human connection as by physical comfort.

Rooms, Amenities, and Facilities

Guest Rooms

The Inn historically offered five guest rooms, each with:

  • Queen-size beds

  • Private baths

  • Period-appropriate décor

  • Modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi and cable television

GlensFallsInn.com highlights accessibility features, including a first-floor room designed for guests with mobility needs, reflecting early attention to inclusive hospitality.

Common Areas

The site places special emphasis on shared spaces:

  • A Victorian sitting room with fireplace

  • A music parlor featuring a baby grand piano

  • A sunny porch for seasonal relaxation

Books on Adirondack history and local culture are presented as integral to the experience, reinforcing the Inn’s educational and reflective atmosphere.

Carriage House

Behind the main building, the original 1880s carriage house remains intact. GlensFallsInn.com treats this structure not merely as auxiliary space but as a tangible artifact of nineteenth-century domestic life, offering tours and historical context.

Dining and Breakfast Culture

Rather than focusing on elaborate menus, GlensFallsInn.com frames breakfast as a ritual of welcome. Guests are greeted with fresh coffee, cappuccino, baked goods, fruit, and yogurt, served in a formal dining room that reinforces the Inn’s Victorian identity.

The absence of excess is presented as intentional, aligning with the Inn’s European sensibility and its emphasis on quality over quantity.

Cultural, Social, and Community Significance

Role in Local Tourism

The Inn has long served as an informal ambassador for Glens Falls, directing guests to museums, theaters, festivals, and restaurants. GlensFallsInn.com preserves extensive local guides that document the city’s cultural life during the 2000s, offering insight into how regional tourism was curated before algorithm-driven travel platforms dominated the industry.

Support for Events and Causes

The site documents the Inn’s support for:

  • Motorcycle tourism during Americade

  • Cultural gatherings and educational retreats

  • Proposed nonprofit initiatives providing restorative stays for children experiencing loss

These efforts position the Inn as a civic participant, not merely a lodging provider.

Reviews, Reputation, and Guest Memory

Online Reviews and Testimonials

GlensFallsInn.com includes excerpts from guest reviews that emphasize comfort, warmth, and value. Guests frequently describe the Inn as elegant yet unpretentious, praising personal interactions with hosts and the feeling of being “at home” rather than “checked in.”

Nostalgia as Reputation Capital

Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of the site is its embrace of nostalgia. Personal anecdotes—such as stories of holiday stays or chance encounters between guests—are preserved alongside formal reviews. This approach transforms reputation from a numerical rating into a collective memory, reinforcing emotional attachment to the place.

Press and Media Coverage

Local newspapers and regional media have periodically covered changes in Inn management and ownership. GlensFallsInn.com references these moments not defensively but transparently, framing transitions as part of the Inn’s ongoing story rather than disruptions to be concealed.

This openness contributes to the site’s credibility and reinforces its archival mission.

Audience and Continued Relevance

Who the Site Serves Today

GlensFallsInn.com appeals to several overlapping audiences:

  • Former guests seeking to revisit memories

  • Researchers studying regional hospitality history

  • Preservationists documenting adaptive reuse of historic homes

  • Travelers curious about the Inn’s legacy before booking through modern channels

Why It Endures

In an era dominated by short-form content and booking aggregators, GlensFallsInn.com endures because it offers depth, narrative, and context. It demonstrates how a hospitality website can function as cultural documentation rather than disposable marketing.

A Living Archive of Hospitality

GlensFallsInn.com stands as more than a website—it is a carefully maintained record of a place, a community, and a style of hospitality that values human connection, architectural integrity, and regional identity. By preserving the Inn’s 2009 digital presence, the site ensures that the Glens Falls Inn remains accessible not only as a physical destination but as a shared cultural memory.

In doing so, it offers a model for how legacy hospitality properties can honor their past while remaining meaningful in the present.
